Dr. B. Praba serves as Professor and Head of the Department of Mathematics at SSN College of Engineering. She earned her Doctor of Philosophy in Mathematics from the University of Madras at the Ramanujan Institute for Advanced Study in Mathematics in 1997, with a thesis titled "Cohomology of Inverse Semigroups." Her earlier degrees include a Master of Science in Mathematics from Bharathidasan University (1985–1987) and a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics from the same university (1982–1985). With 36 years of research and teaching experience in various mathematical disciplines, she is a recognized Ph.D. supervisor for Anna University, Chennai, and Sri Chandrasekharendra Saraswathi Viswa Mahavidyalaya University, Kancheepuram. Additionally, she chairs the Board of Studies for first-year courses under Regulation 2024 at SSNCE and serves on doctoral committees for Ph.D. students at other universities.
Dr. Praba's research focuses on algebraic studies of rough semirings, topological parameters of graph structures associated with rough semirings, and applications of rough cellular automata to real-life problems. She has authored nine books, such as "Algebra and Calculus" with Dr. S. Kalavathy (Vijay Nicole, 2018), "Statistics for Management" with P.S. Arunachalam and Dr. R. Sujatha (Scitech, 2003), "Engineering Mathematics Vol I and II" with others (Tata McGraw-Hill, 2009), and "Probability and Statistical Techniques" (Vijay Nicole, 2024). Her publication record includes 95 journal papers and 80 conference papers, garnering 368 citations, an h-index of 11, and an i10-index of 12. Among her accolades are the Outstanding Educator & Scholar Award from the 8th Teachers Day Awards 2017 by NFED and the Best Researcher Award for 2009 from SSNCE.
She has delivered over 20 invited talks and lectures on topics including rough set theory, semirings, graph theory, probability, and fuzzy logic at various national and international conferences and workshops. Dr. Praba has convened prominent events like the 37th Annual Conference of the Ramanujan Mathematical Society (2022) and served as chairperson in multiple international conferences. As a reviewer for journals such as the Journal of Intelligent & Fuzzy Systems, International Journal of Fuzzy Systems, and Fuzzy Sets and Systems, and guest editor for Advances in Mathematics: Scientific Journal (2020 special issue), she actively contributes to advancing mathematical research.
