About Bandana

Professor Bandana Saini is a Professor in the Sydney Pharmacy School, Faculty of Medicine and Health at the University of Sydney, where she serves as Head of Discipline (Pharmacy Practice) and Director of Academic Career Development. She is also Research Leader at the Woolcock Institute of Medical Research. Her academic background includes a BPharm (1990) and MPharm in Pharmaceutics (1992) from the University Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Chandigarh, India; an MBA (1996) from the University of Western Sydney; and a PhD (2004) from the University of Sydney, focused on innovative asthma management by community pharmacists.

Professor Saini's research specializations lie in pharmacy health services research, particularly the implementation of clinical practice models for respiratory and sleep disorders in primary care settings such as community pharmacies. Over more than two decades, she has led and collaborated on projects involving screening and case detection for sleep disorders, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, and tuberculosis; patient self-management support for allergic rhinitis, asthma, and sleep disorders; clinical audits for insomnia medications, insomnia practice, and smoking cessation; pharmacovigilance for insomnia medications; and pharmacy education initiatives. Her work extends internationally to countries including Cambodia, Indonesia, India, Finland, Malaysia, Pakistan, and Saudi Arabia. With over 300 publications and more than 7,000 citations on Google Scholar, her contributions have transformed respiratory and sleep health care delivery in Australian community pharmacies. She received the NHMRC Translating Research into Practice Fellowship (2017-2019). Professor Saini chairs the Medicines Committee of the Australasian Sleep Association, serves on its Clinical Committee, is a member of the Pharmacists' Advisory Group (National Asthma Council Australia since 2008), and the Primary Care Advisory Committee (Lung Health Foundation).
