Dr. Barbara Goodwin is the Industry Partnerships Manager at the McCusker Centre for Citizenship, University of Western Australia. In this capacity, she oversees partnerships with industry, not-for-profit organisations, government bodies, and community groups to deliver internship programs that cultivate active citizenship and real-world experience for UWA students. Her work supports initiatives that connect students with meaningful projects, enhancing community wellbeing locally, nationally, and globally. Barbara holds a PhD in Law, complemented by a postgraduate law degree from the University of Western Australia. She brings extensive experience from multiple senior positions within the Australian higher education sector, along with a robust background in law.
Barbara Goodwin leverages her strong networks in social services and not-for-profit sectors, employing advanced communication, strategic, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills to foster inclusive opportunities for young people. She previously served as Secretary on the Board of Unicare and currently acts as a Director at Kiind. A dedicated advocate for individuals with disabilities and their carers, her passion stems from lived experience with her son, Winston, who lives with multiple disabilities. This drives her founding of Care Corner, for which she earned the 2024 WiTWA Rising Star Award for Entrepreneurship. At UWA, she functions as a DEI Contact Officer for the McCusker Centre and holds an ex officio position on the Employability and Careers Development Committee. Barbara has engaged in public discussions on complex healthcare and disability management, appearing on the Meaning of Health Podcast with Mia Hagbro-Tedeschi.
