Ben Rickerby serves as the Manager of Undergraduate Entrance Scholarships in the Division of External Engagement at the University of Otago. He is responsible for administering undergraduate entrance scholarships targeted at students yet to commence degree studies at the university, handling processes from application through to selection and payment of awards. The team under his management includes senior administrators Emma Noviarini-Temple and Nicola Clarke, who assist with all undergraduate entrance scholarship enquiries directed to entrance.scholarships@otago.ac.nz.
Ben Rickerby actively promotes scholarship opportunities through various outreach activities. He presented at the 2023 Careers Advisers' Conference on undergraduate entrance scholarships, delivered a session on University of Otago scholarships at Columba College Year 13 Camp in 2024, and participated in the 2026 Manaaki New Zealand Scholarships webinar alongside representatives from the Department of Economics. In July 2025, as Undergraduate Entrance Scholarships Manager, he noted that the new International Academic Excellence Scholarships were awarded to the top percentage of first-year international students applying to study at Otago. He attends the University Council's Scholarships and Prizes Committee ex officio as Manager, Undergraduate Entrance Scholarships. In addition, Ben Rickerby is the Musical Director of the Kaikorai Metropolitan Brass Band, which collaborated with the Salvation Army Brass Band for a Christmas carol fundraising concert in December 2023 to support the Foodbank. He chaired the hosting committee for a brass bands golden march event in Dunedin in 2023.
