Prof Bernard Matolino is a Professor in the Department of Philosophy at the University of Pretoria. His research interests include African philosophy in all areas, political theory with emphasis on communitarianism and liberalism, race and racism particularly regarding the ontology of race and its social aspects, and epistemology including metaepistemology and social epistemology. He previously held a position as associate professor at the University of KwaZulu-Natal. Matolino is the author of the monograph Afro-Communitarian Democracy, published by Rowman & Littlefield in 2019. He has delivered public lectures, including one on Governments of National Unity and the African polity at North-West University in 2024, and a keynote address at the UNESCO and University of Nigeria conference on identity politics, sustainable development goals, and policy options in Africa in 2023.
