Rate My Professor Beth George

Beth George's research specializations encompass urbanism, design, and drawing, with a particular emphasis on extending useful fictions derived from meticulous contextual studies. Her drawing practice explores the dual connotations of drawing—to pull (as in drawing blood) and to push (mark-making)—integrating memory, analysis, and speculation. She employs a blend of analogue and digital media, two- and three-dimensional elements, and techniques ranging from mapping to life-drawing. Key creative outputs include the exhibition 'Out of Hand: an installation of drawing machines animated by sound' with Tom Allum (2024), 'Drawing as Travelogue' with Emerald Wise (2024), and the winning entry 'Solstice' for the Australian Tapestry Design Prize for Architects with Emerald Wise (2023). Notable publications feature 'Unburdening expectation and operating between: architecture in support of palliative care' co-authored with R. McLaughlin in Medical Humanities (2023), contributions to 'Prospects for a New New Brutalism' (2022), 'Covid Retrospect: a reconsidered residential habitat' (2022), and 'UWA Architecture: The First 50 Years 1965-2015'. Beth has earned prestigious awards such as the Joan and Eugene Vanderpool Fellowship at the Athenian Agora (2025) and Drawing Out, Drawing In: Cartographies for Out of the Sea (2022). Her 21 research outputs, spanning exhibitions, designs, articles, chapters, and conference contributions, underscore her impact in advancing architectural discourse through practice-led inquiry.
