Beth Thompson is an Assistant Professor in Hunter Library at Western Carolina University, where she holds the position of Department Head of Content, Organization & Management, eResources and Technology. She oversees a comprehensive array of library operations, including acquisitions and serials, eResources, cataloging and metadata, media cataloging, monographic cataloging, collection development, digital scholarship, special and digital collections, systems, web services, and embedded systems. Thompson obtained her Master of Library and Information Science (MLIS) from Kent State University and a Master of Music (MM) in flute performance from the same university. She previously served as Cataloging & Metadata Librarian at Western Carolina University. In her scholarly contributions, Thompson co-edited Managing Institutional Recordings with Liza Weisbrod, published in 2023 by A-R Editions as part of the Music Library Association Technical Reports series (volume 40, ISBN 9780895799074). The volume brings together articles on various aspects of collecting and managing institutional recording collections, such as audio and video from faculty recitals, student performances, ensembles, and guest artists. She presented on managing institutional recordings at the Music Library Association Conference 2020. Furthermore, Thompson secured grant funding for the Hunter Library Touchscreen Kiosk Project through the North Carolina Library Services and Technology Act (LSAT), receiving $18,688 in 2024 to support library initiatives.
