Bitaran Jang Maden is an Instructional Assistant Professor in the Department of Economics at the University of Houston, part of the Business & Economics faculty. He received his Ph.D. in Economics from Texas Tech University in 2022, an MBA in Finance from the School of Management at Tribhuvan University in 2015, and a B.E. in Civil Engineering from Pulchowk Engineering Campus, Institute of Engineering, Tribhuvan University in 2010. Maden's career trajectory includes his appointment at the University of Houston since August 2023, where he teaches ECON 3347: Capital Market Economics and ECON 2301: Principles of Macroeconomics. Prior to this, he held the position of Visiting Assistant Professor at Allegheny College from August 2022 to August 2023, instructing courses such as ECON 101: Introduction to Macroeconomics, ECON 203: Applied Economic Statistics, ECON 201: Macroeconomic Theory, and ECON 251: International Economics. From 2016 to 2022 at Texas Tech University, he served as Graduate Part-Time Instructor, teaching Intermediate Macroeconomics, Principles of Microeconomics, Principles of Macroeconomics, and Principles of Economics, and as Graduate Teaching Assistant. Earlier, from 2014 to 2016, he lectured in Business Economics and Business Statistics at Capital College and Research Center and SV Academy College in Kathmandu, Nepal.
Maden's academic interests center on Monetary Economics, Time Series Econometrics, and Applied Macroeconomics. His peer-reviewed publications include "Unemployment insurance generosity and crime," co-authored with H. NoghaniBehambari and published in Applied Economics Letters (2021, volume 28, issue 13, pages 1076-1081), and "News and The Business Cycle: The Effects of News Based Uncertainty Shocks" in Journal of Economics & Management Policy (2022, volume 3, issue 4, pages 1-12). Among his working papers are the job market paper "The effect of Contractionary monetary policy on inflation through increased borrowing cost: an estimated DSGE model," "Addressing Price Puzzle - SVAR, FAVAR and SVEC Approach," and "Uncertainty and Financial Returns: Introducing Economic Uncertainty to Arbitrage Price Model" co-authored with Benaissa Chidmi.
