Bo Nielsen is Professor of Business Strategy in the Discipline of International Business at the University of Sydney Business School. He serves as Adjunct Professor in the Department of Strategy and Innovation at Copenhagen Business School and holds visiting academic positions at international universities. Nielsen earned a PhD in International Strategic Management from Copenhagen Business School and an MBA in Technology and Innovation Management from Pacific Lutheran University in the United States. His research focuses on the intersection of strategy, international business, and economic geography, with emphasis on multilevel issues in strategic collaboration, firm internationalization, strategic decision-making across borders, and methodological development in international business. With over 11,000 citations and numerous publications in top journals, his work has had substantial impact. Notable publications include "Dynamic capabilities and performance: strategy, structure and environment" (Wilden, Gudergan, Nielsen, & Lings, Long Range Planning, 2013, 1529 citations); "Top management team nationality diversity and firm performance: A multilevel study" (Nielsen & Nielsen, Strategic Management Journal, 2013, 783 citations); "The role of top management team international orientation in international strategic decision-making: The choice of foreign entry mode" (Nielsen & Nielsen, Journal of World Business, 2011, 558 citations); "The location choice of foreign direct investments: Empirical evidence and methodological challenges" (Nielsen, Asmussen, & Weatherall, Journal of World Business, 2017, 554 citations); and "Global cities and multinational enterprise location strategy" (Goerzen, Asmussen, & Nielsen, Journal of International Business Studies, 2013, 511 citations). He co-edited Research Methods in International Business (Eden, Nielsen, & Verbeke, Palgrave Macmillan, 2020).
Nielsen is Consulting Editor for the Journal of International Business Studies and co-founder and President of the Research Methods Shared-Interest Group of the Academy of International Business. He is a 2024 Fellow of the Academy of International Business and serves on the board of the European International Business Academy as representative for Australia and New Zealand, as well as on editorial boards of top-tier journals.
