About Bo

Associate Professor Bo Qin serves in the Department of Accounting, Faculty of Business and Economics at the University of Melbourne. He joined the University of Melbourne in July 2015 and attained tenure in December 2019. Prior to this position, he was an Assistant Professor of Accounting at the University of Amsterdam from September 2013 to June 2015. Bo Qin received his MSc in Accounting from Tilburg University in the Netherlands in 2005. He is affiliated with the Centre for Asian Business and Economics.

Bo Qin's research specializations encompass executive compensation, corporate governance, financial reporting, say on pay, textual analysis, CEO succession, and top management team. His key publications include 'CEO Origin and Accrual-Based Earnings Management' co-authored with Flora Kuang, 'The Relation between Strategy, CEO Selection, and Firm Performance', 'Taming the dragon: stock exchange comment letters and earnings volatility', 'Internal and External Social Capital of Big 4 Audit Offices' with Flora Kuang, 'From bytes to bucks: The influence of social media commentary on private placements in Chinese listed companies', and 'Economic Value Added in performance measurement: A simulation approach and empirical evidence' (2023) with Yuanzhan Chen and Zhuo Jin.
