Bob Eisenberg serves as a Lecturer in the Department of Critical Literacy, Technology & Multilingual Education within Rowan University’s College of Education. With a robust background in literacy education, he holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Pepperdine University and Master of Arts degrees from Rutgers University in Camden and Rowan University. Before transitioning to higher education, Eisenberg dedicated 35 years to teaching in the Camden City School District, where he worked as an elementary and middle school teacher, literacy leader, and literacy coach at schools such as Forest Hill Elementary School. He retired from Camden City Schools in June 2019.
At Rowan University, Eisenberg teaches both undergraduate and graduate reading courses, preparing future educators in literacy instruction. He coordinates the Literacy Studies program and the reading endorsement programs, ensuring their alignment with state certification requirements. As Program Coordinator for the Post-Baccalaureate Program in Teacher of Reading, he guides post-baccalaureate students seeking endorsement in reading. Additionally, as Reading Clinic Coordinator, he oversees the long-standing clinic that has served South Jersey for over 80 years, offering one-on-one tutoring, professional evaluations, and tailored instruction in word recognition, comprehension, and writing for K-12 students. The clinic has adapted to online formats to continue its services. Eisberg also serves as co-advisor for the Secondary Education Club and Students for Literacy, fostering student engagement in education initiatives. He completed Rowan University’s Faculty Online Teaching certificate program in Spring 2016. Furthermore, he has served as a committee member on multiple graduate theses examining literacy topics including dual-language texts for emergent bilinguals, culturally responsive literacy practices, literature circles, and literacy instruction in nature. Eisberg’s extensive experience bridges K-12 teaching and teacher preparation, contributing to literacy development in New Jersey.
