Dr Brendan Foo serves as an Adjunct Clinical Senior Lecturer at Curtin Medical School within the Faculty of Health Sciences at Curtin University. Concurrently, he is a consultant in the Geriatric, Acute and Rehabilitation Medicine (GARM) department at Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital, working in the Acute Care of the Elderly (ACE) unit in ward C16. In this role, Dr Foo provides acute medical care to patients over 65 years old presenting with geriatric syndromes such as cognitive impairment, acute confusion, falls, declining mobility, frailty, and functional decline. The unit utilizes comprehensive geriatric assessments via a multidisciplinary team to manage acute medical problems and functional impairments concurrently.
A locally trained medical graduate with a Bachelor of Medicine, Dr Foo was a Geriatric Medicine Advanced Trainee at Fiona Stanley Hospital in 2016. His contributions to geriatric medicine research include conference presentations such as 'Age should not be a barrier to deep brain stimulation (DBS) for Parkinson's disease' (2015, Royal Perth Hospital, with Poh-Kooi Loh), 'An audit of PET scan utilisation in an Australian memory clinic' (2015), and 'Feasibility of a nurse-led Criteria Led Discharge (CLD) initiative in acute care of the elderly (ACE) ward and delirium care unit' (2023, Sir Charles Gairdner and Osborne Park Hospitals, with Sean Maher, Brian Su, Victoria Meadows, Beena Dinesh). He presented a Western Australian Centre for Rural Health (WACTN) research project grant in 2016 and participated in service improvement projects at Fiona Stanley Hospital in 2019, including efforts to improve clinical indicators in geriatric admissions.
