Bruno Beernaert is a Postdoctoral Scientist at the Centre for Immuno-Oncology in the Nuffield Department of Medicine at the University of Oxford. He completed a DPhil in Cancer Science at the University of Oxford and holds a Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Molecular and Cellular Biology from the University of Edinburgh.
His research centres on chromosomal instability in cancer, cGAS-STING signalling, and innate immunity in the tumour microenvironment, with a particular focus on oesophageal adenocarcinoma. Key publications include the 2023 review “cGAS–STING signalling in cancer: striking a balance with chromosomal instability” in Biochemical Society Transactions and the 2026 paper “Chromosomal instability shapes the tumor microenvironment of esophageal adenocarcinoma via a cGAS–chemokine–myeloid axis” in Science Advances. Dr Beernaert has received research funding from Guts UK and the University of Oxford Medical Sciences Division.
