Budy P. Resosudarmo is a developmental and environmental economist at the Australian National University (ANU). He earned a BSc in Electrical Engineering from the Bandung Institute of Technology in 1986, an MSc in Operations Research from the University of Delaware in 1991, and a PhD in Development Economics from Cornell University in 1996. Currently, he holds the position of Professor and Head of the Arndt-Corden Department of Economics in the Crawford School of Public Policy, as well as Head of the ANU Indonesia Project. His career includes earlier roles such as Researcher at Indonesia's Agency for the Assessment and Application of Technology from 1996 to 2001 and Lecturer in the Graduate Program in Economics at the University of Indonesia from 1997 to 2001. He has also served as a Postdoctoral Associate at the University of Vermont's Community Development and Applied Economics Department from 1998 to 1999.
Resosudarmo's research examines the economy-wide effects of economic and environmental policies on local economies, household incomes, human development, and the environment, with a focus on Indonesia and Southeast Asia. He utilizes techniques including impact evaluation, computable general equilibrium modelling, spatial and inter-regional analysis, panel data, and political economy analysis, collaborating with Indonesian institutes on topics such as energy transformation, disaster management, and development in lagging regions. He has demonstrated significant leadership in the field, serving as President of the Regional Science Association International from 2017 to 2018, President of the Pacific Regional Science Conference Organization from 2013 to 2015, and President of the Asian Association of Environmental and Resource Economics from 2021 to 2023. Additionally, he was Indonesia Senior Practitioner Fellow at Harvard University's John F. Kennedy School of Government in 2015 and a Fulbright Visiting Fellow there in 2001. Resosudarmo is a Fellow of the Regional Science Association International and holds advisory roles with the Indonesian Regional Science Association and the Economy and Environment Institute-Indonesia. Key publications include 'The Indian Ocean tsunami: Economic impact, disaster management, and lessons' (2005), 'Overcoming barriers to solar and wind energy adoption in two Asian giants: India and Indonesia' (2019), 'Indonesia's changing economic geography' (2008), and the book 'The politics and economics of Indonesia's natural resources' (2005).
