Rev. Fr. Dr. C. Joe Arun, SJ, is the Director and Professor of Marketing and Human Resources at Loyola Institute of Business Administration (LIBA), Chennai. He earned his D.Phil. in Anthropology from the University of Oxford in 2003, an MBA in Marketing from the Indian Institute of Banking and Insurance Management (IIBM), Delhi, and holds B.A. and M.A. degrees. Arun's research specializations include consumer behaviour, strategic management, cross-cultural management, conflict and identity construction, business strategy, leadership, and the impacts of artificial intelligence and COVID-19 on workplaces and supply chains. His scholarly contributions encompass over 40 publications, including the book Constructing Dalit Identity (Rawat Publications, 2007) and highly cited articles such as Rebooting employees: Upskilling for artificial intelligence in multinational corporations (International Journal of Human Resource Management, 2023), Potential of artificial intelligence for transformation of the education system in India (International Journal of Education and Development using Information and Communication Technology, 2021), Unlocking the COVID-19 lockdown: work from home and its impact on employees (2020), From stigma to self-assertion: Paraiyars and the symbolism of the parai drum (Contributions to Indian Sociology, 2007), and Did double lockdown strategy backfire? Cobra effect on containment strategy of COVID-19 (International Journal of Disaster Risk Reduction, 2021). He has also co-authored works on digital transformation, employee well-being, and digital marketing adoption.
Throughout his career, Arun has served in prominent academic and administrative roles, including founding the Centre for Business Ethics and Corporate Governance at LIBA in 2005, which was recognized as a National Centre by the Ministry of Corporate Affairs, Government of India. He organizes the annual Business Ethics Conference (BEACON) since 2007 and instituted the Mother Teresa Award for Corporate Citizenship in 1998. As a global academician, he has traveled to countries including Australia, Belgium, France, Germany, Peru, Sri Lanka, Spain, Switzerland, Taiwan, the UK, and the USA for teaching, research, and conferences. Arun received the CSR ‘Eminent Director of Leading Institute of India’ award in 2017 and an ACLS fellowship for his project Sustaining Hereditary Knowledge of South Indian Frame Drummers through Digital Music-Mapping. Appointed Director of LIBA in 2019, he promotes ethical business education, holistic student development, and strong industry-academia partnerships.
