Célio Magalhães earned his Doutor em Ciências (Zoologia) from the Universidade de São Paulo in 1991. He has held positions as a collaborating researcher at the Universidade de São Paulo and served as a research scientist and curator of Crustacea at the Instituto Nacional de Pesquisas da Amazônia in Manaus, retiring in 2019 as pesquisador titular A-III. His academic work centers on the taxonomy and systematics of Neotropical freshwater decapods. Magalhães has authored numerous publications, including articles and book chapters on the subject, contributing to the understanding of freshwater crab diversity and classification in the Neotropics. He maintains affiliations with institutions focused on biological research and has been cited extensively in the scientific literature for his contributions to carcinology.
