Rate My Professor Chanel Fallon

Dr Chanel Fallon is a Lecturer in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Bath. She earned her Master of Engineering and Doctor of Philosophy degrees from the University of Cambridge, where she specialised in Civil, Structural and Environmental Engineering during her undergraduate studies. Following her graduation, Dr Fallon worked for one year as an investment banker in the City of London. She returned to the University of Cambridge in 2015 to pursue her PhD, focusing on novel material solutions for protecting infrastructure against blast and impact events. Subsequently, she served as a Research Associate at the University of Oxford in Impact Engineering, contributing to a project with Rolls-Royce that examined ice impacts on titanium alloys. In her current role at the University of Bath, Dr Fallon continues to advance knowledge in the dynamic response of materials and structures through a combination of experimental, numerical and analytical techniques.

Her research specialisations include dynamic experimental techniques using gas gun and Split-Hopkinson pressure bar apparatus, numerical modelling of extreme dynamic loading conditions and pressure-dependent materials, blast and impact mitigation strategies for civilian infrastructure, and strain-rate and temperature-dependent characterisation of materials. Dr Fallon has authored several peer-reviewed publications, such as "Modelling the response regimes of elastomer-coated concrete slabs subjected to blast pressure loading" in 2023 and "An analytical method to predict stiffener debonding in postbuckled compression panels" in 2026. She is involved in projects including the DYNamic Analysis of composite liquid Hydrogen fuel tanks and investigations into protective strategies for concrete. Dr Fallon accepts doctoral students and maintains an active presence in academic collaborations at the Centre for Integrated Materials, Processes & Structures.
