Charles H. Noble serves as the Jerry & Kay Henry Professor in Business and the Kinney Family Faculty Research Fellow at the Haslam College of Business at the University of Tennessee - Knoxville, where he is also affiliated with the Marketing department. He holds the additional title of Henry Distinguished Professor of Marketing. Noble previously served as associate dean for research and faculty at Haslam College of Business. Prior to his appointments at the University of Tennessee, he held faculty positions at Boston College and the University of Mississippi. His research interests center on design and development processes as applied to both products and services. He has published in numerous leading academic journals, including the Journal of Marketing, Strategic Management Journal, Journal of the Academy of Marketing Science, Journal of Product Innovation Management, and IEEE Transactions on Engineering Management. Noble served as Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Product Innovation Management from 2019 to 2024. He earned a Ph.D. in Marketing from Arizona State University in 1996, an M.B.A. in Marketing and International Business from Babson College in 1989, and a B.S. in Finance from Boston College in 1986. Noble has received multiple awards for both research and teaching excellence. His expertise encompasses brand and category management, consumer behavior and decision making, marketing research, marketing strategy, and product design and development. He has consulted for organizations primarily in the airline, retailing, consumer goods, and commercial real estate sectors. Noble currently serves as President of the University of Tennessee Knoxville Faculty Senate.
Throughout his career, Noble has contributed to the advancement of knowledge in marketing and innovation through his scholarly work and leadership roles. His positions on editorial boards, including a second term on the editorial board of the Journal of the Academy of Marketing Science, underscore his influence in the field. Noble's academic appointments and research focus have positioned him as a key figure in business education and scholarship at the University of Tennessee - Knoxville.
