Charlotte Boyle has served as a Lab Demonstrator for PSYC211 Brain & Cognition in the Department of Psychology in 2023. As an undergraduate student majoring in Zoology and Psychology at the University of Otago, she was initially drawn to Zoology due to her high school passion for Biology but discovered the Psychology Department's research intriguing. A self-described 'big nerd,' she enjoyed the practical elements of her BSc, including weekly labs with specialty equipment and helping postgraduate students with research. She aims to work in wildlife preservation. Living with a mild case of Ehlers-Danlos syndrome—a connective tissue disorder causing joint pain, nerve damage, and fatigue—Charlotte faced challenges like exam writing difficulties and classroom fatigue in high school, unaware of accommodations initially. At Otago, Disability Information and Support proved invaluable, offering student advisor advocacy for timetabling and assessments, notetaking services to focus on lectures, and shared housing with peers providing camaraderie. She advocates for lecturers to inform students of supports from the first lecture and encourages inquiring about accommodations.
