Hailing from Arkansas, she earned her Ph.D. in Rhetorics, Communication, and Information Design from Clemson University in 2021, a Master of Arts from the University of Memphis, and her undergraduate degree from Southern Arkansas University. A McLuhanist scholar with a background in media ecology and media effects, Slack is primarily an AI researcher focusing on AI pedagogy and the changing nature of converging technologies; she occasionally pursues writing on feminism. She chronicled the university’s modern era (2000–2025) in the centennial history book Southeastern 100: The Story of Southeastern Louisiana University’s First Century and has published three peer-reviewed articles, including her dissertation Cultivation 2.0: The Mediated Environment as Message (2021). Slack received a 2022 Elizabeth Dole Foundation grant and was selected as a 2026 Faculty Champion by the Center for Community News at the University of Vermont. Based in New Orleans, she freelances as a content creator and Mardi Gras artist for multiple krewes.
