Dr Chen Qian is a Postdoctoral Fellow at the School of Photovoltaic and Renewable Energy Engineering at the University of New South Wales. He completed a Doctor of Philosophy at UNSW Sydney between 2018 and 2022, with a thesis focused on the fabrication of high-efficiency all-inorganic antimony chalcogenide solar cells, following a Master’s degree in photovoltaic and solar energy. His research centres on thin-film solar cells, with particular emphasis on Sb2(S,Se)3 and emerging wide-bandgap chalcogenides. He also works on semitransparent electrodes and tandem device applications.
Dr Qian has authored or co-authored numerous peer-reviewed publications, including the 2026 paper in Nature Energy titled 'Regulation of hydrothermal reaction kinetics with sodium sulfide for certified 10.7% efficiency Sb2(S,Se)3 solar cells'. Additional key publications include works in Advanced Materials (2023) on bifacial and semitransparent Sb2(S,Se)3 solar cells for single-junction and tandem applications, Journal of Materials Chemistry A (2022 and 2025), and Advanced Energy Materials (2025). His contributions have supported advancements in antimony chalcogenide solar cell efficiency, including a world-record achievement for the material class. Dr Qian is affiliated with the UNSW Engineering faculty through the School of Photovoltaic and Renewable Energy Engineering.
