Professor Chihoon Lee is a Professor in the School of Business at Stevens Institute of Technology. He earned his Ph.D. in Statistics from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 2008 and his B.S. in Statistics and Mathematics from Seoul National University in 2003. Prior to joining Stevens in 2015 as an Associate Professor, advancing to Full Professor, he served as Assistant Professor and Associate Professor in the Department of Statistics at Colorado State University from 2008 to 2015. From 2020 to 2024, he held the position of Associate Dean of Graduate Studies in the School of Business, overseeing 10 Master's programs and 3 MBA programs serving 1,400–1,600 graduate students. He chaired the School Graduate Curriculum Committee and managed curriculum development, international partnerships, and enrollment metrics.
Chihoon Lee’s research spans the fields of applied probability—focusing on service operations, stochastic networks, and stochastic control—and statistics, with an emphasis on sequential learning and inference for stochastic processes. His analytical tools leverage operational data to enhance efficiency in large-scale service operations, production systems, and retail environments. Collaborations extend to engineering disciplines such as communication networks, financial engineering, and quantum computing for finance, as well as scientific fields including population dynamics and infectious disease modeling. He has received major awards including the 2025–2026 Brain Pool Fellowship selected by the National Research Foundation of Korea, 2026 membership in the Korea Technology Advisory Group by the Korea Institute for Advancement of Technology, 2024 selection in the Top Pick list for 'VIX Options Valuation via Continuous-Time Markov Chain Approximation and Ito-Taylor Expansion', 2022 EURO Best Paper Award in Innovative Applications of Operations Research from the Association of European Operational Research Societies, 2012 Early Career Statistician Award from the Korean Statistical Society, 2015 New Researcher Fellow at the Statistical and Applied Mathematical Sciences Institute, and 2014 Short-term Visiting Fellow at the National Institute for Mathematical and Biological Synthesis. Key publications include 'Duality and Transform Analysis for Non-decreasing Functionals of Stochastic Processes and Their Applications' (Journal of Applied Probability, 2026), 'Control in Stochastic Environment with Delays: A Model-based Reinforcement Learning Approach' (Proceedings of the International Conference on Automated Planning and Scheduling, 2024), 'Stationary Distribution Convergence of the Offered Waiting Processes in Heavy Traffic under General Patience Time Scaling' (Queueing Systems, 2021), and 'Stationary distribution convergence of the offered waiting processes for GI/GI/1+ GI queues in heavy traffic' (Queueing Systems, 2020).
