About Chloe

Dr Chloe Griffin is a Research Fellow in the School of Ocean and Earth Science at the University of Southampton. Her research focuses on Earth science, particularly sedimentology and stratigraphy, examining Earth's surface processes and their records in the geological record. She holds a Doctor of Philosophy from the University of Liverpool, awarded in 2019, and a Master of Earth Science from the same institution, completed in 2015.

Griffin has contributed to research on ancient climate records preserved in rocks from the Cryogenian period. In 2026, she led a study published in Earth and Planetary Science Letters that identified interannual to multidecadal climate oscillations during Cryogenian glaciation, based on analysis of Scottish rocks. This work provides evidence of seasonal and longer-term climate cycles operating during a time when Earth was largely covered in ice. Her academic appointments include her current role as Research Fellow at the University of Southampton.
