Rate My Professor Chris Buddo

Dr. J. Christopher Buddo serves as Provost and Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs at East Carolina University. He joined the ECU faculty in 2006 as professor and director of the School of Music. Buddo previously held positions at Baylor University School of Music, where he served as associate dean for administrative affairs and director of the division of ensembles. He earned a Doctor of Musical Arts degree and a Master of Arts degree in double bass performance and pedagogy from the University of Iowa, along with a Bachelor of Music degree in double bass performance from James Madison University.

At ECU, Buddo advanced through several leadership roles, including interim dean of the College of Fine Arts and Communication during the 2012-13 academic year and dean from 2013 to 2021. In these positions, he provided oversight to the Schools of Art and Design, Communication, Music, and Theatre and Dance. He was appointed interim provost in October 2024 and named provost effective May 2026. As a double bassist, Buddo has performed with ensembles including the North Carolina Opera, Waco Symphony, Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra, and Carolina Ballet, and he is a founding member of the New Carolina Sinfonia. As a conductor, he has led ECU Opera Theater productions and founded the Waco Symphony Youth Orchestra. Professional Email: null
