Dr. Christie Bennett is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Nutrition, Dietetics and Food at Monash University, part of the School of Clinical Sciences at Monash Health in the Faculty of Medicine, Nursing and Health Sciences. She is an Advanced Accredited Practising Dietitian, a Credentialed Eating Disorder Clinician, and a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy. Bennett completed her PhD at Monash University, focusing on pregnancy nutrition with the thesis titled "Sleep During Pregnancy: A Novel Opportunity To Change The Health Of Two Generations." She also holds a Graduate Certificate in Health Professional Education from Monash University.
Her academic interests encompass eating disorders, health professional education, nutrition, and women's health. Bennett researches the lived experiences of people with eating disorders, the influence of nutrition and dietetics pedagogy on disordered eating among students, and educational interventions aimed at improving inclusivity in dietetics and broader healthcare by privileging lived experience. She is the Primary Chief Investigator for the project "Eating disorders in fertility care: exploration of the impact of an online educational module for health care professionals." In recognition of her work, she received the Nestlé Nutrition Institute Young Researcher of the Year award for Australia and New Zealand in 2018 and a School of Clinical Sciences Career Development Fellowship in 2023 to investigate barriers and enablers of incorporating client input in health care education. Bennett serves as Associate Editor for the Journal of Critical Dietetics since 2023. Among her key publications are "Empathy in Nutrition and Dietetics: A Scoping Review" (Journal of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, September 2024), "Students' perspectives from co-designed, lived experience eating disorders education: A qualitative inquiry" (Nurse Education Today, January 2025), "Obstructive sleep apnea syndrome in polycystic ovary syndrome: a systematic review and meta-analysis" (Frontiers in Endocrinology, 2025), "Changing the perspectives and approaches of health professional students toward people with lived-experience of eating disorders" (2025 conference abstract), and "Exploring the voices of people with lived experience of eating disorders in health professions education" (2025 conference poster). With 42 research outputs, she is actively accepting PhD students through Monash's supervisor connect.
