About Christie

Christie Maturo serves as Associate Professor and Chair of the Theatre Department at Central Connecticut State University. Her academic background includes a Master of Fine Arts in Theatre, Acting from Northern Illinois University earned in 2013, a Bachelor of Science in Theatre and Sign Language from Towson University, and a Secondary English teaching credential from California State University, Bakersfield. She furthered her training through a summer program with the Moscow Art Theatre in Russia, graduation from the Second City Conservatory program, certification as a Meisner teacher from the True Acting Institute, and certification as a teacher candidate with the National Michael Chekhov Association. As a Meisner-trained actor, Maturo specializes in character acting, physical comedy, improvisation, dialect work, heightened text across various styles from Elizabethan to 20th century, and movement rooted in the Alexander Technique, Williamson, and Chekhov methods. She is a member of Actors' Equity Association (AEA) and SAG-AFTRA.

At CCSU, Maturo teaches theatre courses, underscoring the discipline's role in studying humanity, enhancing communication, collaboration, idea expression, problem-solving, and interpersonal understanding. She advises the Center Stage club, producing their annual May musical, and Theatre Unlimited, which partners with the Kennedy Center American College Theater Festival (KCACTF). As Vice-Chair of KCACTF Region 1, she hosted the 2024 festival at CCSU, leads the region's Irene Ryan Acting Scholarship Competition, and coordinates faculty responses to student productions at other institutions. Maturo has directed several department productions, including Sense and Sensibility, The Misanthrope (2025), The Wolves by Sarah DeLappe, True West by Sam Shepard, and The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee. She conducts outreach to local high schools with free audition workshops and sends CCSU students to share their experiences. Additionally, she serves on the Curriculum Committee for the College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences and has been recognized on the Excellence in Teaching honor roll.
