Christopher Palmer serves as Programmer Scientific within Information Technology Services, supporting the Department of Mathematics and Statistics at the University of Otago. He holds a BSc (Hons) and PG Dip (Sci), both from the University of Otago. Palmer joined the department in February 2005 and provides critical IT support for scientific computing, administrative tasks, and research activities.
Located in Science III, room 421c, he has contributed to various departmental efforts, including technical support acknowledged in multiple PhD theses and research papers such as the 2021 publication on antiviral defence systems. Palmer assists his father, Warren Palmer, in organizing the Maurice Williamson Junior Maths Competition, a national event that in 2017 involved approximately 6,500 Year 9 to 11 students from around 150 New Zealand schools. He also maintains posts on the Junior Maths Competition website.
