About Chukwuma

Chukwuma Okereke Ofor is a Professor of Aquaculture Production Management in the Department of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Management, College of Natural Resources and Environmental Management, at Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike, Abia State, Nigeria. He earned his B.Sc. in Zoology from the University of Ilorin, Kwara State, and his Ph.D. in Aquaculture from the University of Calabar, Cross River State. Professor Ofor joined the university in January 1996 as a Lecturer and has advanced through the academic ranks to his current professorial position. In addition to his teaching and research duties, he serves as Director of the Directorate of University Advancement since 2021, managing university linkages, collaborations, alumni affairs, and institutional advancement. He is also the Managing Editor of the ASUU Journal of Science and actively lectures and mentors undergraduate and postgraduate students while engaging in community development.

His research emphasizes problem-oriented investigations in aquaculture production management, focusing on challenges in Nigerian aquaculture, including production process improvements, aquaculture-environment interactions, waste valorization, and environmental stressor effects on fish early life stages. Key studies cover early-stage development of Heterobranchus longifilis, population dynamics of Nematopalaemon hastatus, Schaefer surplus production model applications in Oreochromis niloticus culture, and production economics of Heterobranchus longifilis and Clarias gariepinus. Selected publications include "Comparative Aquatic Risk of Three Glyphosate-Based Herbicides Using Early-Stage Development of Clarias gariepinus (Burchell, 1822)" (2025), "Growth Performance, Proximate Composition and Profitability of Heterobranchus longifilis Grow-Out Using Different Commercial Feeds" (2025), "Toxic Stress Indices in Oreochromis niloticus (Linnaeus, 1758) Challenged with Aqueous Solution of NPK 15-15-15 in Culture Media" (2025), "Progression of African Catfish Clarias gariepinus (Burchell) Early Stages Challenged with Two Common Pond Fertilizers in Incubation Media" (2018), and his 56th Inaugural Lecture "My Inaugural Lecture (second edition)" (2024), delivered in October 2024. With 34 publications and 89 citations, he is a member of the Fisheries Society of Nigeria and the Nigerian Society of Aquatic Sciences.
