Clare Fitzpatrick is the Research Laboratory Technical Manager at the Faculty of Dentistry, University of Otago, in Dunedin, New Zealand. She operates within the Sir John Walsh Research Institute in the Dental School, part of the Division of Health Sciences. In her role, she oversees laboratory operations, supporting advanced research in microbiology, immunology, and biomaterial development relevant to dental and medical sciences. Her technical expertise has been instrumental in facilitating experimental work, including cell culture techniques, multiplex analyses, and equipment management, as acknowledged in multiple doctoral theses from the University of Otago. These contributions have enabled researchers to conduct studies on topics ranging from inflammation in type 2 diabetes to biofilm accumulation on orthodontic brackets and synthetic lethal drug combinations for cancer research.
Fitzpatrick has actively contributed to peer-reviewed publications in biomedical materials research. She co-authored 'Characterization of the in vivo host response to a bi-labeled chitosan scaffold as a potential dual-modality imaging platform for tissue-engineered constructs,' published in the Journal of Biomedical Materials Research Part A in 2015, which explored the biological response to innovative scaffolds for tissue engineering applications. Another notable paper is 'In vitro biocompatibility and cellular interactions of a chitosan/methylmethacrylate biomaterial suitable for vascular bypass grafts,' appearing in the Journal of Biomedical Materials Research Part B: Applied Biomaterials in 2015, assessing a novel material's suitability for vascular uses. Her ResearchGate profile documents 10 publications with 242 citations, underscoring her influence in advancing knowledge on biomaterial-host interactions and biocompatibility testing. Previously associated with the Department of Microbiology and Immunology at the Otago School of Medical Sciences, her work bridges dental research and broader biomedical fields.
