Rate My Professor Clare Gallon

Gallon's research specializations encompass skeletal muscle physiology, contractile proteins, cardiomyopathies, muscle biology, muscle contraction, and muscle proteins. Her work particularly examines the tropomyosin binding region of cardiac troponin T and its modulation of crossbridge recruitment dynamics in rat cardiac muscle fibers, as detailed in her 2013 publication. She has investigated myofibrillar Ca2+-sensitivity uncoupled from troponin I phosphorylation in hypertrophic obstructive cardiomyopathy due to abnormal troponin T (2012), thin filaments reconstituted with troponin from cardiomyopathy patients showing functional abnormalities (2010), troponin I phosphorylation sites in human heart muscle (2010), and the use of phosphate-affinity SDS-PAGE to measure troponin I phosphorylation site distribution in human heart muscle (2009). With 20 publications and 472 citations, her contributions have advanced understanding of muscle function and cardiac disease mechanisms. Gallon has been honored for teaching excellence, receiving the Most Inspirational Teacher award and Educational Inspirer from the College of Medicine and Health in 2019, and Educational Motivator from the University of Exeter Medical School awards in 2018.
