Professor Craig Kapp is a Clinical Professor of Computer Science at the Courant Institute of Mathematical Sciences at New York University. He earned his B.S. in Computer Science from The College of New Jersey in 1999, an M.S. in Educational Technology from The College of New Jersey in 2003, and an M.P.S. in Interactive Design and Digital Media from New York University in 2010. Kapp's career at NYU centers on undergraduate education in computer science, where he teaches foundational and advanced courses including Introduction to Computer Programming, Introduction to Computer Science, Introduction to Computer Science Honors, Introduction to Web Design and Computer Principles, Web Development and Programming, Special Topics in Interactive Computing, Computers in Principle and Practice, and independent studies such as Museum Studies and Computer Science Exhibit Prototyping for Historic Homes of New York City.
Kapp's research specializations and academic interests include augmented reality, virtual reality, mixed reality simulations, data visualization, graphics and gaming, interactive media and responsive software design, digital storytelling, web-based instructional and educational technology platforms, and developing assistive technologies for people with disabilities. He has created open-source libraries including A-Frame P5, a wrapper around the A-Frame Mixed Reality framework for integration with p5.js, and A-Frame P5 AR, which incorporates AR.js for web-based augmented reality applications. Kapp's commitment to teaching excellence has earned him recognition through New York University's Golden Dozen Teaching Awards, NYU College of Arts and Science Teaching Innovation Awards in 2016 and 2019, and consistent rankings among the top-rated professors nationally.
