Daiki Sato is a Specially Appointed Assistant Professor at the Institute for Advanced Academic Research and the Graduate School of Science at Chiba University, a position he has held since July 2023. He received his Ph.D. in Life Science from the Graduate School of Life Sciences at Tohoku University.
His research examines the molecular and evolutionary mechanisms that give rise to behavioral diversity in animals, with particular attention to personality, anxiety, collective behavior, genetic variation, and adaptive evolution. He applies methods from evolutionary genomics, population genetics, bioinformatics, and ethology, frequently using organisms such as fruit flies, red swamp crayfish, and intertidal isopods to investigate topics including the genetic basis of collective survival through neurogenomic diversity and adaptation to cold environments. His contributions appear in peer-reviewed publications, and his work has been featured in university press releases on subjects such as hidden species boundaries revealed by night lights in Tokyo Bay and the genetic underpinnings of animal behavior.
Chiba University's pioneering study shows how artificial night lights in Tokyo Bay create genetic boundaries between intertidal isopod species, highlighting urban ecology's evolutionary impacts.
