About Daisuke

Daisuke Matsubara is Professor and Chairman of the Department of Diagnostic Pathology at the University of Tsukuba. He earned his MD in 2000 and PhD in 2004 from the University of Tokyo. His career includes positions as assistant professor at Jichi Medical University, lecturer and visiting associate professor at the University of Tokyo Institute of Medical Science, and associate professor at Jichi Medical University before joining the University of Tsukuba in 2021. He also serves as Director of the Tsukuba Human Tissue Diagnosis Center and Chief of the Department of Pathology at University of Tsukuba Hospital, as well as visiting professor at Jichi Medical University.

His research specializes in respiratory pathology with a focus on lung adenocarcinoma, including molecular mechanisms of carcinogenesis, metastasis, and metabolism; the roles of transcription factors such as TTF-1 and NKX2-1; Hippo pathway involvement; and epithelial-mesenchymal transition. He has contributed chapters to the WHO Classification of Tumours, 5th edition, on invasive non-mucinous adenocarcinoma, atypical adenomatous hyperplasia, and minimally invasive adenocarcinoma of the lung. Matsubara has received awards including the Young Investigator Award in 2010 and 2014, the Pathology Research Award in 2018, and the excellent paper prize from Jichi Medical University. He maintains active memberships in the Japanese Society of Pathology, Japan Lung Cancer Society, Japanese Cancer Association, and Japanese Society of Clinical Cytology. Professional Email: null
