Daisuke Watanabe is an Associate Professor at the Diversity Promotion Center of Saitama University. He holds a Ph.D. in Education from Tokyo Metropolitan University, awarded in 2009. His earlier academic training includes studies at Chiba University Graduate School of Education.
Watanabe’s research centers on education related to sexual diversity, comprehensive sexuality education grounded in human rights and gender equality, and support for sexual minority children and youth in school settings. His publications include works examining the positioning of sexual diversity education in UN and UNESCO frameworks and its implications for Japanese education, as well as studies on the challenges faced by sexual minority students and practical approaches to inclusive sex education in schools. He has contributed chapters and articles on topics such as teaching about sexual diversity to young children, the current state of sexuality education in Japan, and queer perspectives in educational practice. Watanabe serves in roles supporting diversity initiatives at the university and participates in academic discussions and publications addressing gender, sexuality, and educational policy in Japan.
