About Dan

Dan Daniel serves as Assistant Professor at the Okinawa Institute of Science and Technology Graduate University (OIST), where he leads the Droplet and Soft Matter Unit. He holds a BA in Physics from the University of Cambridge, awarded in 2011, and a PhD in Applied Physics from Harvard University, awarded in 2017. Prior to his current role at OIST, he was Assistant Professor at King Abdullah University of Science and Technology from 2022 to 2024. His academic career also includes a period as group leader at IMRE in Singapore following his doctoral studies.

Dan Daniel's research centers on the physics of droplets, soft matter, wetting and adhesion science, fluid dynamics, interfacial phenomena, droplet dynamics, condensation, and charged water drops. He has received the 2024 APS DFD Milton van Dyke Award, the 2024 APS Gallery of Soft Matter Award, and the 2022 IACIS Emerging Investigator Award. He is a council member of the International Association of Colloid and Interface Scientists. His work combines experimental approaches with theoretical modeling to explore phenomena at the intersection of multiple scientific disciplines.
