Dana E. Boccio, Ph.D., is an Associate Professor in the Gordon F. Derner School of Psychology at Adelphi University, where she teaches in the School Psychology M.A. and Psy.D. programs. She serves as a Representative for the American Association of University Professors, Adelphi Chapter. Dr. Boccio earned her B.A., M.A., and Ph.D. in Psychology from Hofstra University, completing her Ph.D. in Clinical and School Psychology in 2006. Prior to academia, she worked as a school psychologist in the West Babylon School District on Long Island, New York. Following four years at St. John’s University, she joined Adelphi University in 2012.
Dr. Boccio’s research interests focus on adolescent suicide risk assessment and ethical issues in school psychology. Her work examines practical implications for the field, including deficits in training for working with suicidal youth and strategies for coping with administrative pressure to practice unethically. She has published an instrument to assist school-based mental health professionals in assessing an adolescent’s level of suicide risk, along with articles linking administrative pressure to professional burnout. Dr. Boccio is a member of the National Association of School Psychologists’ (NASP) Ethical and Professional Practices Board and has authored two Ethics Advisory Bulletins for the organization. Her expertise includes school psychology and suicide risk among school students.
