Dr. Dana Bush is Associate Dean, Professor, and Interim Chair of the Department of Applied Human Sciences in the College of Education & Applied Human Sciences at Eastern Kentucky University. She has committed over 25 years to the institution, contributing to its mission of preparing students for careers that enhance individual, family, and community well-being through interdisciplinary programs blending social and natural sciences. Under her leadership, the department offers Bachelor of Science degrees in Child & Family Studies, Interdisciplinary Human Sciences Education, Food & Nutrition, and Global Hospitality & Tourism, along with a Certificate in Gastronomic Tourism. These programs emphasize experiential learning, research application, and service, viewing the family as the cornerstone of a healthy society. Dr. Bush facilitates study abroad initiatives, including trips to Italy, where students explore cultural dimensions of hospitality and human sciences.
Educated at Eastern Kentucky University and the University of Kentucky, Dr. Bush holds a B.S. in Child and Family Studies from EKU, an M.S. in Family Studies from UK, and a Ph.D. in Educational Policy Studies in Higher Education with a concentration in leadership from UK. Her research and academic interests center on aesthetic development, developmentally appropriate curriculum, and educating adults on the critical role of play in young children's lives. Professionally, she serves as President-elect of the National Coalition of Campus Children’s Centers and possesses the Commonwealth of Kentucky Director’s Credential and Training Credential. In 2024, Eastern Kentucky University honored her with recognition at the President's Excellence Awards for 25 years of service. Previously known as the Department of Family and Consumer Sciences, the unit reflects her longstanding involvement in child and family studies administration and education.
