Dr. Daniel J. Burt is Professor and Interim Chair of the Department of Health and Kinesiology at Texas A&M University-Kingsville, where he also serves as Sport Business Program Coordinator. He holds a Ph.D. in Kinesiology from the University of Arkansas (2012), with a concentration in Pedagogy and cognates in Adapted Physical Education and Sport Management; an M.S. in Sports Administration from Henderson State University (2009); and a B.A. in Kinesiology and Leisure Studies from Ouachita Baptist University (2008). His dissertation investigated the prevalence, beliefs, and instruction of homework materials in physical education among Arkansas educators. Prior to his doctoral studies, Burt served as a Graduate Assistant and Adjunct Professor at Henderson State University and later as Senior Teaching Assistant, Doctoral Academic Fellow, and Adjunct Professor at the University of Arkansas and Ecclesia College.
Burt joined Texas A&M University-Kingsville in 2012 as Assistant Professor, advancing to Associate Professor in 2018 and Professor, while holding progressive leadership roles including Sport Business Coordinator (2014-2017), Sport and Leisure Coordinator (2017-2018), Associate Chair and Graduate Coordinator (2018-2023), and Interim Chair (2023-present). He teaches courses such as Research in Kinesiology, Statistical Analysis of Research Data, Motor Skills in Special Populations, Measure and Evaluation in Kinesiology, Motor Learning and Development, Administration of Sport Programs, and Introduction to Sport Business. His research interests include Sport Management Pedagogy and Caffeine Use and Motor Control, with expertise in Kinesiology Pedagogy, Sport Management, and Adapted Physical Education. Key publications encompass co-editing Movement in Special Populations: Fitness, Sport, and Physical Education for Individuals with Disabilities (2nd ed., Kendall Hunt, 2023); authoring A Life of Wellness: Health and Fitness for Young Adults (2nd ed., Cognella, 2021); and refereed articles like "Implementation of self-talk cues for university instructional physical activity programs as a best practice approach" (Journal of Physical Education, Recreation & Dance, 2023, with D.M. Cutton), "Game on! Gamifying the sport psychology college classroom" (Journal of Sport Psychology in Action, 2018, with A.M. Shipherd), and "Social technology in the kinesiology classroom" (International Journal of Kinesiology in Higher Education, 2018, with G. Weatherford). Burt has earned the 2024 Dudley Allen Sargent Lecture keynote (NAKHE), Presidential Award for Excellence in Leadership (NAKHE, 2022), Outstanding Junior Faculty of the Year (TAMUK College of Education and Human Performance, 2017), and NASSM Outstanding Reviewer (2018). He chairs the Publications Committee for Phi Epsilon Kappa and contributes to various academic committees and editorial roles.
