Dr. Daniel Hall is the Dean of the Earl N. Phillips School of Business at High Point University, where he also serves as an associate professor of economics. He joined the university in 2010, initially serving as an assistant professor of economics. In January 2015, he became chair of the Department of Economics and later advanced to interim dean of the School of Business before taking on his current deanship. Hall holds a Ph.D. in Economics and an M.A. in Economics from Georgia State University, complemented by a B.S. in Economics from Georgia State College and State University. Renowned for his passion for experiential learning, Dr. Hall employs innovative teaching methods including classroom experiments, debates, field trips, guest practitioners as speakers, discussion walks, and service-learning courses. He actively incorporates service club activities into his pedagogy to foster real-world application.
Dr. Hall's academic interests and research focus on experimental approaches to economics, specifically investigating how trust levels differ under varying property right entitlement frameworks, conceptualizing the efficiency-equality trade-off within public goods contexts, analyzing how governmental public goods provision crowds out voluntary contributions, and leveraging economic tools to enhance service organizations. His scholarly output includes peer-reviewed publications in prominent journals such as Research in Experimental Economics, Games, Libertarian Papers, and the Journal of Economics and Finance Education. Additionally, he has obtained significant grants from High Point University's Think Big Program and the Charles Koch Foundation to create EconApps, a series of iPad applications designed to teach core economic principles via market experiments. For his outstanding contributions to service learning, Dr. Hall was honored as Service Learning Professor of the Year during the 2013-2014 academic year. In 2021, he received the prestigious Spirit of High Point University Award. Through his multifaceted roles in teaching, research, and administration, Dr. Daniel Hall exerts considerable influence on business and economics education.
