Daniel McKeating serves as a Lecturer and Major Coordinator for Advertising and Design in the School of Design and the Built Environment within the Faculty of Humanities at Curtin University. He holds a Bachelor of Arts (BA) from Curtin University and a Master of Design (MDes) from RMIT University. McKeating began his career in graphic design after studying at the Western Australia School of Art, Design & Media (now North Metro TAFE), where he credits mentors Neil Hollis, Jon Greenwood, and Jeremy Williams. Following his TAFE diploma, he completed an additional year at Curtin University to earn his bachelor's degree. Post-graduation, he secured a full-time junior design position at Chameleon Creative (now Dash Digital) and engaged in freelance work at Braincells agency in Claremont. In 2009, he completed his master's at RMIT, focusing on brand strategy, design thinking, and creative advertising. With over two decades of experience in design education and industry practice, McKeating now teaches key units including GRDE1027 Advertising Design 1, GRDE2001 Graphic Design: Building Brands for Success, and GRDE3034 Design Capstone Project. He coordinates major programs that emphasize visual communication, brand development, and professional design practice.
McKeating's commitment to teaching excellence is demonstrated through multiple awards from the Curtin Student Guild Excellence in Teaching Awards for the Faculty of Humanities, where he was the winner in 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020, and 2021. These recognitions highlight his superior classroom communication, student engagement, and passion for the discipline. In his design career, he has earned notable industry honors, including the Communication Arts Award of Excellence (2015), How Design Award of Excellence (2014), BWAA Gold Trophy for Wine Label Design (2013), and PICA Gold and Silver Trophies (2012). A member of the Australian Graphic Design Association (AGDA) and the Perth Advertising & Design Club (PADC), McKeating operates Studio Lost and Found, a brand consultancy. His role extends to guest judging design competitions, such as those organized by the Curtin Design Club, fostering connections between students and the design industry. Through his academic appointments and professional contributions, McKeating significantly impacts design education at Curtin University.
