Dr Danlu Guo is an Associate Professor at the Australian National University School of Engineering within the College of Systems and Society, a position she has held since December 2022. She is also an honorary fellow at the University of Melbourne. Guo completed her PhD in Hydrology at the University of Adelaide in April 2017, following a Research Associateship at UNSW Sydney from October 2016 to October 2017, and subsequent roles as Research Associate and Teaching Specialist at the University of Melbourne's Department of Infrastructure Engineering until late 2022.
Guo’s research expertise lies in hydrology and environmental engineering, with specializations in catchment rainfall-runoff modelling, water quality modelling, and climate change impact assessment. Her work centers on data-driven and large-sample approaches to model catchment water resources. She has led projects funded by over AU$1 million in Category 2 grants and participated in two ARC Linkage Projects. With more than four years of teaching experience, she has coordinated subjects and lectured in environmental engineering and hydrology. Her contributions have earned her the 2022 GN Alexander Medal from Engineers Australia, the 2019 Early Career Research Award from the Modelling and Simulation Society of Australia and New Zealand, and distinction for her publication as the most downloaded in Water Resources Research (2018-2019). Key publications include “Australian water quality trends over two decades show deterioration in the Great Barrier Reef region and recovery in the Murray-Darling Basin” (Communications Earth & Environment, 2025), “Benchmarking farm-level cotton water productivity using on-farm irrigation measurements and remotely sensed yields” (Agricultural Water Management, 2025), “Controls on Spatial Variability in Mean Concentrations and Export Patterns of River Water Quality Indicators” (Water Resources Research, 2022), and “Impact of evapotranspiration process representation on runoff predictions at the hillslope scale” (Water Resources Research, 2017). Guo serves as Chief Editor of the Australasian Journal of Water Resources, Guest Editor for the Journal of Hydrology, and Chair of the MSSANZ water quality modelling special interest group.
