Rate My Professor Daphne Koller

Daphne Koller is an Adjunct Professor in the Computer Science Department at Stanford University, where she previously served as the Rajeev Motwani Professor in the School of Engineering. She joined the Stanford faculty in September 1995. Koller earned her PhD in computer science from Stanford University in 1993, following a postdoctoral position at the University of California, Berkeley. She received her bachelor's and master's degrees from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem.

Koller’s research focuses on machine learning, probabilistic graphical models, and their applications in computational biology and biomedical data analysis. She has authored over 300 refereed publications and co-authored the book Probabilistic Graphical Models: Principles and Techniques, published in 2009. Her career includes co-founding Coursera, where she served as co-CEO and President, and founding insitro, a machine learning-driven drug discovery company, where she is CEO. Among her many honors are the MacArthur Fellowship in 2004, the Presidential Early Career Award for Scientists and Engineers in 1999, the ACM Prize in Computing in 2008, election to the National Academy of Sciences in 2023, and the National Academy of Engineering in 2011. She is also a fellow of the American Association for Artificial Intelligence and the American Academy of Arts and Sciences.
