Professor Darelle van Greunen is a Distinguished Professor of Information Technology at Nelson Mandela University and Director of the Centre for Community Technologies (CCT). She leads a multidisciplinary research, engagement and innovation group focused on developing ICT solutions for community development, particularly in e-Health, m-Health, ICT for Development (ICT4D), user experience and living labs. Her work emphasizes creating technology solutions adapted for African contexts, following the philosophy of ICT solutions for Africa, by Africans in Africa.
Van Greunen holds a PhD, MA, HDE and FDE. She is affiliated with the School of Information Technology within the Faculty of Engineering, the Built Environment and Technology. She has received several honors, including the InspiringFifty award in 2024, the NRF Public Engagement with Research Award, and recognition as winner of South Africa’s Science Oscar for digital innovation in Africa in 2025 for the work of the CCT.
