David Anderson serves as Associate Chair and Associate Professor of Music in Arts and Culture at La Sierra University, where he has been the Director of Orchestra Studies since 2013. He holds a Doctor of Musical Arts degree from the University of California, Los Angeles, and a Master of Music from the University of Missouri, Columbia. A charismatic and energetic conductor, Anderson is frequently engaged as a guest conductor with professional orchestras worldwide, including engagements in Europe such as Italy and Spain, Asia including Hong Kong, Thailand, and Vietnam, and South America including Brazil and Argentina. Recent highlights include conducting Rossini’s Il Barbieri di Siviglia with Teatro Goldoni in Pisa, Italy, Orquesta del Festival Gaudix Clásica in Spain, and Orchestra Filarmonica Campana in Italy. He holds the distinction of being the first American citizen to conduct the Ho Chi Minh City Ballet Orchestra in Vietnam.
Additionally, David Anderson has served as Music Director and Artistic Director for the Dana Point Symphony and Symphony Irvine for over twelve years, and as cover conductor for the San Diego Symphony. He has performed alongside members of the Los Angeles Philharmonic and collaborated with distinguished artists including Cho-Liang Lin, Andres Cardenes, Yizhak Schotten, Smokey Robinson, David Archuleta, Manhattan Transfer, John Tesh, Lincoln Mayorga, Arlo Guthrie, and Dick Dale. His broad repertoire encompasses works by Beethoven and Brahms to newly commissioned pieces. Anderson has led numerous ballets, such as Nutcracker, Peter and the Wolf, and La Cigale with Anaheim Ballet, Nouveau Chamber Ballet, and Montage Dance Theater, as well as operas including The Magic Flute, Il Segreto di Susanna by Wolf-Ferrari, Hansel and Gretel, I Due Figaro by Mercadante, and Daron Hagen’s Little Nemo in Slumberland. Other achievements include his debut at Walt Disney Hall conducting Marcos Galvany’s O My Son, performances of traditional Chinese and Japanese music in Nagoya, Japan with Tu Shan Xiang and George Gao, and contributions to ensembles like Grumo Festival Orchestra, Hong Kong Chamber Orchestra, Siam Sinfonietta, Yakima Chamber Orchestra, Cerritos College Orchestra, and Montage Civic Orchestra. He also participated in the recording session for the 2010 documentary With Great Power: The Stan Lee Story and music directed the tour of the original opera Il Pianista Disgraziata.
