David Corlett, Ph.D., PMP, serves as Senior Program Director of Undergraduate Degree Programs and Assistant Professor of Interdisciplinary Studies at the University of Virginia School of Continuing and Professional Studies. Affiliated with the Department of History, he has built a higher education career spanning more than two decades, encompassing faculty and administrative roles at Arizona State University and the College of William & Mary. At the College of William & Mary, Corlett earned his Ph.D. in American History in 2010 and his M.A. in American History, in addition to serving as Interim Director of the National Institute of American History and Democracy. He holds a B.A. from Gonzaga University. His professional qualifications include certifications as a Project Management Professional (PMP), Certified Scrum Master, and Disciplined Agile ScrumMaster, reflecting his expertise in project management and agile methodologies applied to educational administration.
Corlett's scholarly work focuses on early American warfare and colonial culture. His teaching interests include early American history, comparative colonialism, public history, military history, and policy. In his leadership role at UVA SCPS, he directs undergraduate degree programs such as the Bachelor of Interdisciplinary Studies, supporting online degree completion for working adults, military personnel, and other non-traditional students. He contributes to innovative educational initiatives, including partnerships with organizations like the Metropolitan Police Department and the Virginia Prison Education Program, which provide pathways to bachelor's degrees for incarcerated individuals. Corlett's commitment to accessible higher education aligns with SCPS's mission to broaden opportunities for lifelong learners, drawing on his extensive experience in program development, online instruction, and interdisciplinary curriculum design. As a key member of the Dean's Office and faculty leadership team, he plays a pivotal role in advancing the school's strategic goals in continuing and professional education.
