David M. Fleischer, MD, is Professor of Pediatrics-Allergy/Immunology at the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus. He serves as Section Head of Allergy and Immunology and Director of the Allergy and Immunology Center at Children’s Hospital Colorado. Fleischer earned a BA in Biology, summa cum laude with Distinction in Biology, from the University of Pennsylvania in 1992 and an MD from Emory University School of Medicine in 1997. He completed his internship and residency in Pediatrics at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine in 1998 and 2000, respectively, and a fellowship in Pediatric Allergy and Immunology at the same institution in 2005. His career trajectory includes Assistant Professor positions at National Jewish Health (2005–2012) and University of Colorado Denver School of Medicine (2006–2012), advancing to Associate Professor at Children’s Hospital Colorado (2013–present) and full Professor at University of Colorado School of Medicine (2020–present). Earlier roles encompass private practice as a general pediatrician (2000–2002) and Director of the Challenge and Research Unit at Children’s Hospital Colorado (2014–2017).
Fleischer’s research focuses on food allergy, particularly peanut and tree nut allergies, exploring why some patients outgrow them more readily and investigating oral, sublingual, and epicutaneous immunotherapies. Key publications include “EAACI guidelines on the management of IgE-mediated food allergy” (Allergy, 2025), “The use and implementation of omalizumab as food allergy treatment” (Journal of Allergy and Clinical Immunology, 2025), “Efficacy and Safety of Epicutaneous Immunotherapy in Peanut-Allergic Toddlers: Open-Label Extension to EPITOPE” (Journal of Allergy and Clinical Immunology: In Practice, 2025), and “Long-Term Safety of Epicutaneous Immunotherapy in Peanut-Allergic Children” (Journal of Allergy and Clinical Immunology: In Practice, 2025). He has received the Phi Beta Kappa honor (1991), two American Academy of Pediatrics Section on Allergy and Immunology Outstanding Pediatric Abstract Awards (2004, 2005), AAAAI Award for Outstanding Research (2005), and Children’s Hospital Colorado Patient-Family Experience Four Star Excellence Awards (2018, 2021). Fleischer holds fellowships in AAAAI and ACAAI, serves on the editorial board of the Journal of Allergy and Clinical Immunology since 2022, and has chaired the AAAAI Adverse Reactions to Food Committee (2017–2019). His contributions extend to national guidelines, research advisory boards, and clinical trials, enhancing food allergy prevention, diagnosis, and management. He is recognized as a Top Doctor in Allergy & Immunology.
