Dr. David Hua is an Associate Professor in the Center for Information and Communication Sciences at Ball State University, focusing on computer and information technology. He holds a B.S. in Psychological Science from Ball State University, an MBA in Information Systems, and an Ed.D. in Higher Education. Prior to his appointment as faculty, Dr. Hua served as a microcomputer and network analyst at Ball State University. In addition to his teaching and research roles, he has taken on key administrative responsibilities, including serving as Interim Director of the Center for Information and Communication Sciences beginning in 2021. He chaired four faculty search committees in 2023-2024, led initiatives for Indiana Commission for Higher Education approval of online programs in Applied Cybersecurity and Computer and Information Technology, collaborated on a Minor in Broadcast and Media Engineering, developed articulation agreements with Chinese universities, guided the adoption of Faculty Success tools, chaired the Faculty Success and Retention Task Force, acted as Faculty Fellow for the Skills Infusion Program, directed the Intelligent Networked Devices Institute, participated as a BSU Knowledge Group member, and facilitated the New Faculty Academy.
Dr. Hua's research interests include resiliency collective requirements, information technology, ethics, organizational resilience, business continuity, disaster recovery, leadership, networking, and privacy. He is affiliated with the Center for Organizational Resilience and the Center for Energy Research/Education/Service as an Assistant Professor of Technology, with teaching interests in information technology, positive and negative effects of technology on sustainability, energy conservation outreach, immersive learning, and technology engagement for elementary through university students. His publications reflect expertise in emerging technologies, including "AI-Driven Mental Health Surveillance: Identifying Suicidal Ideation Through Machine Learning Techniques" (2025), "Unleashing Educational Potential: Integrating ChatGPT in the Classroom" (2025), "Bias in AI: A Comparative Analysis of DeepSeek and ChatGPT" (2025), "A Cross-Sector Analysis of Technological Implementation Challenges Faced by Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises in the Midwest" (2024), "The Fourth Industrial Revolution" (2024), "Enhancing educational continuity: exploring factors affecting the success of learning management systems in Dubai higher education" (2024), "IoT System Integration" (2019), "A Preprocessing Method for Improved Compression of Digital Images" (2018), and "Online Student Collaboration and FERPA Considerations" (2016). In 2024, he received the Dean’s Faculty Award from the College of Communication, Information, and Media for exemplary leadership, dedication, and service.
