David Ivers is an Associate Professor in the School of Mathematics and Statistics within the Faculty of Science at the University of Sydney. He is a member of the Applied Mathematics research group and maintains an office in the Carslaw Building. His research focuses on magnetohydrodynamics, including topics such as magnetic fields, solar activity, numerical simulations, solar astrophysics, turbulence, ionosphere studies, computational fluid dynamics, and hydrodynamics. Ivers has contributed significantly to understanding geophysical and astrophysical fluid dynamics through analytical and numerical approaches to problems in rotating spherical geometries, kinematic dynamos, and Coriolis modes.
Ivers has authored or co-authored numerous peer-reviewed publications in prestigious journals. Key works include 'Generation of azimuthal electromotive forces from azimuthal magnetic fields' (Geophysical and Astrophysical Fluid Dynamics, 2025, with C.G. Phillips), 'Slow-burning instabilities of Dufort-Frankel finite differencing' (ANZIAM Journal, 2021, with David Galloway), 'Tilted incompressible Coriolis modes in spheroids' (Journal of Fluid Mechanics, 2017), 'Kinematic dynamos in spheroidal geometries' (Proceedings of the Royal Society A, 2017), and 'Enumeration, orthogonality and completeness of the incompressible Coriolis modes in a sphere' (Journal of Fluid Mechanics, 2015, with A.
