David Rakowski is a Professor of Finance in the Department of Finance and Real Estate within the College of Business at the University of Texas at Arlington. He serves as the PhD Coordinator for Finance and Real Estate and Department Chair since June 2020. Rakowski earned his Ph.D. in Finance from Georgia State University in 2003 and his B.B.A. from Stetson University. Prior to graduate studies, he worked in investment banking. He joined the University of Texas at Arlington in 2013 as an Associate Professor, achieved tenure in 2017, and was promoted to Full Professor in 2023.
Rakowski's research specializations include the geography of liquidity, portfolio management, portfolio performance measurement, financial market liquidity, investor behavior, and mutual fund flows. His publications appear in premier journals such as the Journal of Financial and Quantitative Analysis, Journal of Banking & Finance, Financial Management, and The Journal of Finance. Key works include "Fund Flow Volatility and Performance" (Journal of Financial and Quantitative Analysis, 2010), "The Dynamics of Short-Term Mutual Fund Flows and Returns: A Time-Series and Cross-Sectional Investigation" (Journal of Banking & Finance, 2009), "Twitter Activity, Investor Attention, and the Diffusion of Information" (Financial Management, 2021), "Endogeneity in the Mutual Fund Flow-Performance Relationship: An Instrumental Variables Solution" (Journal of Empirical Finance, 2021), "Daily Mutual Fund Flows and Redemption Policies" (Journal of Banking & Finance, 2007), "Decomposing Liquidity Along the Limit Order Book" (Journal of Banking & Finance, 2008), and "Nonstandard Errors" (The Journal of Finance, 2024). Rakowski received the PhD Mentor Award from the UTA College of Business. His contributions extend to teaching research methodology, healthcare finance, and financial markets, as well as supervising doctoral students and certified peer observation in the college.
