Professor David Roessler is a prosthodontist with the University of Otago Faculty of Dentistry, Division of Health Sciences. He holds the qualifications BDS, MDSc, FRACDS, FADI, FPFA, FICD, and MRACDS (Pros). Roessler spent most of his career in private practice as a prosthodontist in Sydney's central business district. In 2020, he moved to Auckland, New Zealand, to become the Clinical Director of the University of Otago Auckland Dental Facility, a modern center built to deliver clinical services and training to final-year dentistry students. He has served as Head of Clinical Services in Auckland and Senior Lecturer at the Auckland Dental Facility. Additionally, he has been titled Associate Professor in professional settings and delivered the keynote address at the University of Otago Clinical Excellence Day in 2021.
Roessler contributes to research in clinical dentistry. He co-authored the paper 'Attitudes regarding a warranty and the expected longevity of dental treatment amongst New Zealand dentists, dental students and patients' in BMC Oral Health (2024). Other publications include 'Spinal pain in undergraduate dental students at the University of Otago Faculty of Dentistry' in the New Zealand Dental Journal (2023) and 'Returning home with a bargain or a burden? New Zealand dentists’ perceptions of the impact of dental tourism on patients and practices' in the New Zealand Dental Journal (2023). His fellowships reflect recognition in the field. Through leadership at the Auckland facility, situated in a multicultural area, Roessler supports dental education and high-needs community service.
